Men’s Tennis opens home docket

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s 28th-ranked men’s tennis team will open its 2009 home schedule this weekend when No. 14 Michigan and No. 43 N.C. State visit the Currey Tennis Center.

The Commodores, 1-1, will face Michigan (4-0) at 2 p.m. Friday and N.C. State (3-3) at 12 p.m. Sunday. Michigan will play N.C. State at 1 p.m. Saturday.

This will mark the second straight year the three schools square off the same weekend. Last year, the matches were played in Ann Arbor, Mich., where the Commodores defeated N.C. State, 5-2, before falling to Michigan, 2-5.

Vanderbilt is coming off an opening weekend where they dropped its season opener to No. 29 Auburn, 3-4, before topping No. 30 Boise State, 4-3.

Individually, N.C. State has two players ranked in singles. Senior Jay Weinacker is ranked No. 55, while senior Christian Welte is ranked No. 124. Michigan and Vanderbilt do not have any players ranked in singles.

In doubles competition, Michigan’s tandem of Mike Srocznski and Jason Jung are ranked No. 8, while Vanderbilt’s duo of Adam Baker and Alex Zotov is ranked No. 32.

Admission is free to all matches.
