AUBURN, Ala. — The Vanderbilt Commodores hit the road once again in SEC play when the team travels to Auburn to take on the Tigers at Beard-Eaves Coliseum. The game will tip at 1 p.m. CT and can be heard on the Vanderbilt-ISP Radio Network and VUcommodores.com, with Joe Fisher and Tim Thompson on the call. The game will not be televised.
Vanderbilt and Auburn will meet for the 129th time on Saturday afternoon, with Vanderbilt leading the overall series, 77-51. The Commodores also lead the series, 30-29, at Auburn, although the Tigers won the last meeting between the two schools at Beard-Eaves Coliseum, 68-65, on Jan. 6, 2007.
Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings is 7-5 all-time against the Tigers, and has won four out of the last five meetings. Stallings is 1-3 all-time at Beard-Eaves Coliseum, with his only win coming in a 67-43 victory on Feb. 16, 2005.
Vanderbilt dropped its fourth consecutive game at South Carolina on Wednesday, 86-76, despite career-best performances from freshman Jeffery Taylor and junior George Drake. Taylor scored a game-high 23 points against the Gamecocks, and Drake tallied a new career high with 18 points, the second time in three games he has set a new career high. He also scored 16 points against Tennessee on Jan. 20, at Memorial Gym.
Freshman Brad Tinsley scored 15 points for the Commodores off of the bench, and junior point guard Jermaine Beal added 13 points against South Carolina. A.J. Ogilvy, who scored a career-low three points against the Gamecocks, did add 11 rebounds, the third time this season he has grabbed double-digit rebounds.
Ogilvy leads all Vanderbilt scorers on the 2008-09 season, averaging 14.4 points per contest. Taylor adds 12.7 points per game, Beal averages 12.0 points, and Tinsley chips in 10.3 points per contest. Ogilvy leads all VU players on the glass with 6.7 rebounds per game.
Auburn enters the game Saturday with a 13-7 overall record, 2-3 in league play, and the winner of two straight, at Arkansas and at home against UT-Pan American. Auburn’s 73-51 defeat of Arkansas was the Razorbacks’ largest margin of defeat in the history of Bud Walton Arena.
DeWayne Reed leads all Tiger scorers at 14.0 points per game. Korvotney Barber (12.4) and Tay Waller (12.1) also average double figures. Barber leads the Tigers on the glass with 9.1 rebounds per game.
