Lipman wins Sportsmanship Award

Jan. 18, 2009

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt signee Ryan Lipman added another impressive award to his resume earlier this month when he received the Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award from the United States Tennis Association.

The award is presented annually by the USTA as part of the International Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies in Newport, R.I. The award is given to a junior player who exemplifies the finest qualities of sportsmanship in tournament play and the finest traditions of the great sportspersons of tennis past and present.

Lipman was one of just four recipients, male or female, to win the award, which is selected from a pool of nominations from all 17 USTA sections. In 2007, Vanderbilt women’s tennis signee Alison Riske won the award.

A native of Nashville, Lipman will join the Commodores in the fall of 2009. He is currently ranked No. 4 in the U.S. by tennisrecruiting.net and No. 32 internationally by itftennis.com.
