Curran finishes two-over at NCAAs

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Vanderbilt junior Jon Curran finished at two-over (215) to finish in a tie for 58th place Saturday at the NCAA East Regional at the Council Fire Golf Club.

Curran played the back nine at two-over before birdying holes one, two and four to get back under par. Bogeys on his final two holes gave Curran a one-over 72 for Saturday’s third and final round. The junior All-American was one of six individuals to compete in the 156-player field unattached.

Georgia won the event going away, shooting a nine-under 275 on Saturday to win by 21 strokes over Augusta State. UC-Irvine, Mississippi State and UAB rounded out the tournament’s top five. Auburn, Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Middle Tennessee State and Virginia finished out the top 10, all advancing to the NCAA National Championship in two weeks at Purdue University’s Kampen Course.

Bulldog Russell Hendley shot a five-under 66 on Saturday to share medalist honors with day two leader Zach Sucher of UAB. Virginia Tech’s Jurrian van der Vaart and Georgia State’s Joel Sjoholm advanced as individuals to the national championship at the end of May.
