MG: Day One Results at John Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team stands in a tie for 11th place after Sunday’s first round of the three-day John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club.

The Commodores are tied with 21st-ranked Indiana in 11th place after shooting a 14-over 302. A pair of sophomores paced the Commodores.

Sophomore Chris Rockwell led the squad with a one-over 73. Rockwell sits in a tie for 17th place with 36 holes left to play. Classmate Hudson Johnson is tied for 32nd place after a three-over 75.

Freshman Ben Klaus shot a four-over 76, while junior All-American Jon Curran posted a six-over 78. Senior Billy Whalen will look to rebound from 13-over 85.

The Commodores will be grouped with Indiana and UAB for Monday’s second round. The teams will leave at 9:03 a.m. ET from the 10th tee.
