Vanderbilt defeated Central Arkansas, 83-62, in the Commodores’ last home game of the Cancun Challenge on November 26. Six VU players scored in double figures, including the entire starting five, with freshman Jeffery Taylor leading the way for the Commodores with 16 points. Junior George Drake added 14 points off of the bench, junior guard Jermaine Beal scored 12, redshirt freshman Festus Ezeli tallied 11 points, as did freshman Brad Tinsley, and sophomore center A.J. Ogilvy chipped in 10 points to cap the double digit scoring. It marked the first time that had happened since December 19, 2006, against UPR-Mayaguez, when Dan Cage (18), Derrick Byars (16), Ross Neltner (15) Ted Skuchas (12), Shan Foster (11) and Jermaine Beal (10) all scored in double figures.

Vanderbilt never trailed in the contest, and led by as many as 26 at one time in the first half.

Five Commodore players are averaging double figures heading into the two game stretch in Cancun – Jeffery Taylor (14.0), A.J. Ogilvy (13.5), Brad Tinsley (11.0), Lance Goulbourne (11.0), and Jermaine Beal (10.0). Goulbourne will not participate in the games this weekend due to illness. Also not participating in this weekend’s games are Festus Ezeli, who is attending to family matters, and Steve Tchiengang, who will sit because of an NCAA policy that affects international students.

Drake owns a 1-0 series advantage over the Commodores, with the only game being played December 29, 1948. The Bulldogs won that contest, 47-46, in Des Moines, Iowa.

So far this season, the Commodores have had eight players score in double figures this season, and three (Ogilvy, Taylor, Tinsley) who have scored in double-figures in every game thus far.

The game tips from the Moon Palace at 7:30 p.m. CT.
