Commodores improve to sixth place on Day Two

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team moved up three spots to sixth place after the second round of the 2008 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges.

Senior Jon Curran led the Commodores on Saturday, carding a two-under 70 that included an eagle on the par-5 14th hole. At two-under for the tournament, Curran (76-70–146) stands in 18th place heading into Sunday’s final round.

Sophomore Adam Hofmann carded another solid round, a one-over 73, on Saturday. Hofmann (71-73–144) remains in the tournament’s Top 10 with 18 holes left to play.

Junior Hudson Johnson rebounded from a tough opening round to shoot a one-over 73. Sophomore Ryan Haselden also scored for the Commodores, recording a three-over 75. Haselden stands in a tie for 24th place in the field of 75 golfers. Vanderbilt did not count senior John Ebert’s six-over 78.

Dropping six strokes off their team score, the Commodores (297-291–588) moved from ninth to a tie for sixth with Missouri. Wake Forest shot a three-under 285 on Saturday to grab a two-stroke lead over Coastal Carolina and host East Tennessee State. Vanderbilt is 12 strokes back of the Demon Deacons’ lead. Ole Miss and North Carolina State round out the top five.

Individually, N.C. State’s Darren Blair leads by one stroke over a duo of Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, Zack Byrd and Dan Obremski. Fifteen players stand at par or better heading into day three.

The tournament’s third and final round will begins at 8:30 a.m. CT Sunday. Vanderbilt is scheduled to tee off on the Ridges’ par-72, 7,147-yard layout at 8:30 a.m. ET, leaving from the first tee with Tennessee and UAB. Complete statistics and live scoring of the event are featured on Golfstat.com.
