Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s remaining three football games against Southeastern Conference opponents Auburn, Florida and Tennessee are sold out, according to Commodore athletic officials.
The only tickets left on the Vanderbilt schedule are both non-SEC opponents, Rice and Duke. The Rice game, scheduled this Saturday in Nashville, features a $12 ticket, the least expensive price on the Commodores’ 2008 schedule. The price for remaining tickets to the Duke game on Saturday, Oct. 25, are $22.
Bobby Johnson’s Commodores are off to a fast start, with victories at Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 28 and against South Carolina on Sept. 4. If the Commodores defeat Rice, they will start the season 3-0 for just the second time in the last 25 years.
Word of the three upcoming SEC sellouts comes after Vanderbilt Athletic officials witnessed big increases in preseason sales of season tickets. The Commodore ticket office has sold 19,105 season tickets this season, a 26.5 percent increase over 2007 sales. The season ticket sales total is the highest by Vanderbilt Athletics since 1996 when the Commodores opened with Notre Dame at home and concluded by hosting Tennessee.
“We’re extremely happy with the response by our fans, and college football fans across the Middle Tennessee region,” Ticket Manager Eric Jones said. “The number of season tickets sold has exceeded expectations.
“The impressive home schedule, starting with the opener against South Carolina, has helped make the season ticket package more attractive. But Coach Johnson’s positive influence on our program is unquestionably having an even bigger impact,” he said.
“Everybody attending the opener against South Carolina could easily see how much excitement our fans have for Coach Johnson’s team.”
Officials expect a crowd of 34-35,000 for the Vanderbilt-Rice encounter. Both teams are undefeated through two weeks of action.
Tickets are available at the Vanderbilt Athletic Box Office through Friday afternoon. The box office is located in McGugin Center at 2601 Jess Neely Drive in Nashville. Ticket windows at Vanderbilt Stadium will open Saturday at 4:00 p.m., two hours prior to kickoff.
