Vanderbilt Police Department in conjunction with Vanderbilt Athletics has created a new traffic plan for postgame traffic that goes into effect this season.
“Our primary objective is to enhance the game experience for our fans by assisting them smoothly and safely on their way home,” says Lt. John Newman of VPD. “Our strategy is essentially to move traffic seamlessly onto main arteries surrounding campus.”
All fans, especially veteran attendees, are encouraged to take the time to understand the new procedure as there are some significant changes.
Members of the National Commodore Club parking in Lots 1-2 along Vanderbilt Place will be directed to turn left and head west on Vanderbilt Place to Blakemore, where they can turn either direction. Cars will not be allowed to exit onto side streets along Vanderbilt Place. Drivers will be encouraged to turn left (west) on West End Avenue to provide quick access to I-440.
Cars exiting from Lot 3 across from the Vanderbilt track will still be able to leave on Natchez Trace and proceed either east or west on Blakemore.
For those exiting the busy 25th Avenue Garage onto 25th Avenue, the two left lanes will be directed to turn south toward Blakemore while the two right lanes will be channeled north toward West End. All northerly traffic on 25th Avenue will be one way. Cars will not be given the option to turn onto side streets until reaching West End and Blakemore.
Cars leaving the 25th Avenue Garage from the Highland Avenue side will make right hand turns and leave southbound via 24th Avenue.
Those parking in the Kensington Garage next to Memorial Gymnasium will be directed left on 25th to reach West End. All cars will be directed right (east) on West End Avenue.
Uniformed officers will also be stationed at three key points to help pedestrians. One officer will be located at the corner of Jess Neely and 25th Avenue South while fans needing to cross West End Avenue are advised to go to Natchez Trace and 28th Avenue South for assistance.
