NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Senior midfielder Katie Schulz was named to the Southeastern Conference preseason squad as voted on by the league coaches.

Schulz is a three-time All-SEC performer and has started in all three years as a Commodore. The Peachtree, Ga., native was a second-team All-SEC performer last year and was a first-teamer as a sophomore in 2006. She picked up SEC All-Freshman plaudits in 2005.

“Katie returned to true form over the spring after battling through an injury last year,” said head coach Ronnie Coveleskie. “You don’t really recognize the impact of her injury until you see her back in full form and you realize what a tremendous player she is. As a senior she will be counted on to lead the team and she is certainly deserving of this recognition.”

Schulz started in 15 of 18 games as as junior and scored the tying goal in the Ole Miss contest. Coming into the 2008 season she has anchored the midfield with 58 starts in 61 games.

The Commodores are in the midst of preseason training in preparation for the 2008 season. The team will kick off the regular season on Aug. 24 against Belmont in the Soccer for the Cure Classic.

Florida led all schools with three selections. Georgia’s Carrie Patterson and Tennessee’s Kylee Rossi were unanimous selections. The coaches preseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of 11 players. Each SEC Head Soccer Coach voted for three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper and one at-large candidate. No ties were broken.
