NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nine regular season events make up Vanderbilt’s 2008-09 men’s golf schedule, including a Mason Rudolph Championship weekend featuring both the Commodore men’s and women’s programs at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The Commodores will take part in four tournaments this fall, including their own Mason Rudolph Championship, Sept. 26-28. Vanderbilt’s men’s and women’s golf teams will host their events simultaneously this season, with the women playing on the North Course (formerly Ironhorse) and men on the South (formerly Roper’s Knob).

In the Spring, Vanderbilt is scheduled to play five events leading up to the 2009 Southeastern Conference Championships in Sea Island, Ga., April 17-19. The Commodores’ ultimate goal is to return to May’s NCAA Championship, hosted at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, for the second time in three years.

“We have once again put together one of the nation’s best tournament schedules for 2008-09,” VU Head Coach Tom Shaw said. “We have added some outstanding new events that feature a number of top-20 opponents, including the prestigious Olympia Fields Invitational, site of the 2003 United States Open, and two of the longest running tournaments in collegiate golf — the Schenkel Invitational and Border Olympics.

“The Mason Rudolph Championship will continue to be one of the most popular tournaments among Commodore fans,” Shaw continued. “This September at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, we will feature both the men’s and women’s tournament at the same time, making us the only program in the country to feature two amazing events on the same weekend.”

The season opens at Olympia Fields on Sept. 19, with Vanderbilt hosting the Mason Rudolph Championship the following weekend. The Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn., and the Western Carolina Intercollegiate in Cashiers, N.C. round out the fall slate.

Spring begins with a pair of trips to Florida — the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate in Orlando and the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee. Rising senior Jon Curran earned medalist honors at the 2008 Seminole Intercollegiate this past March.

The Commodores then head to Laredo, Texas (Border Olympics), Statesboro, Ga. (Schenkel Invitational), and Jackson, Miss. (Reunion Intercollegiate) to make final preparations for the 2009 postseason. Vanderbilt will look to make a strong showing at the SEC Championships in April before NCAA Championship bids are announced. The three NCAA Regionals will be played in Galloway, N.J., Austin, Texas, and San Francisco, Calif.
