INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Vanderbilt women’s tennis player Amanda Taylor added another accolade to her illustrious career when the NCAA recently announced that Taylor was one of 58 student-athletes (29 men and 29 women) to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
A 2008 ITA All-American, Taylor was awarded with a one-time, nonrenewable grant of $7,500. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically, and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
Taylor finished 2008 ranked No. 20 in the nation after going 27-8 overall and 20-4 in dual play. The Richland, Wash., native was also named first team All-SEC and earned ITA Southeast Region Senior of the Year honors. She also received the ITA Southeast Region Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.
Academically, Taylor graduated in May with a 3.5 GPA in human organizational development.
In total, the NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women.
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.
