Former Vanderbilt men’s netter Bobby Reynolds continued his hot play at Wimbledon on Thursday when he teamed with Rajeev Ram to advance to the second round of the gentlemen’s doubles draw.
Reynolds, who advanced to the third round of the singles draw on Wednesday, paired with Ram to defeat Amer Delic and Brendan Evans, 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-3 in the first round on Thursday.
Reynolds and Ram converted 4-of-7 break points, compared to just 1-of-4 by Delic and Evans. With the win, the duo will now face Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the second round.
This is the third doubles appearance at Wimbledon for Reynolds. He advanced to the second round in 2007 and the round of 16 in 2006.
Earlier this year, he paired with Ram to advance to the round of 16 at the French Open. Ironically, it was Nestor and Zimonjic who eliminated the American duo in the round of 16 at the French Open.
In singles, Reynolds will play No. 31 Feliciano Lopez (Spain) in the third round. By advancing to the third round, Reynolds matched his best showing in a Grand Slam. He also advanced to the third round in the 2005 Australian Open.
