NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team will learn its postseason fate on Tuesday with the announcement of the field for 2008 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.

The 64-team field will be announced during the NCAA Selection Show at 1 p.m. on ESPNews. The Commodores are ranked No. 28 and are 13-9 on the season, including a 4-7 mark in the Southeastern Conference.

Vanderbilt finished fourth in the SEC East, but finished behind three teams ranked in the top 10 (Georgia, Tennessee and Florida). In total, four SEC teams are ranked in the top 10 and all 12 teams are ranked among the top 57 teams in the country.

The Commodores have been selected to the NCAA Tournament six of the past seven seasons. In all six of those trips, Vanderbilt has proven its worth to the selection committee by advancing to at least the second round each time.

Last season, the Commodores advanced to the second round with a 4-2 upset over No. 18 Tulsa before falling to host LSU.

The selections for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be announced on Wednesday. The singles field is made up of 64 participants, while the doubles field is comprised of just 32 teams.

Vanderbilt’s Ryan Preston will be bidding for his third consecutive selection into the singles championship. Ranked No. 54, Preston has defeated five ranked opponents this spring as the team’s No. 1 player.
