NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt senior goalkeeper Brooke Shinaberry will need to make room on her trophy case after an outstanding April that saw the Commodore women’s lacrosse team finish the regular season with five straight victories.

Shinaberry was named the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week for the second time this month on Tuesday. This week, she shared the honor with Northwestern’s Hannah Nielsen. Shinaberry also earned national Player of the Week honors from Inside Lacrosse, womenslacrosse.com and WomensLax.com.

In addition, Vanderbilt Head Coach Cathy Swezey has been named the U.S. Lacrosse Coach of the Week. The Commodores notched a pair of wins over Top 10 opponents last week to achieve 12 regular-season victories for the first time in school history.

Shinaberry, a native of Millersville, Md., made a total of 22 saves in victories over No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 7 Duke. Wednesday at Notre Dame, Shinaberry made 10 saves while allowing only six goals. She would then save 12 shots against Duke to give Vanderbilt an 11-10 win on Senior Day.

Earlier this month, the fifth-year senior was awarded the 2008 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship, and was named “Miss Commodore” at Vanderbilt’s annual Black & Gold Banquet.

Vanderbilt opens postseason action on Saturday, May 3, in Evanston, Ill., in the semifinals of the 2008 ALC Tournament. The Commodores have earned the No. 2 seed in the event.
