ST. SIMON’S ISLAND, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team tees off at the 2008 Southeastern Conference Championships on Friday, April 18, at the Frederica Golf Club.
The 12-team field heads out to the par-72, 7,217-yard layout on Friday morning at 7 a.m. CT. The three-day, 54-hole event is scheduled to run through Sunday.
Head Coach Tom Shaw has five upperclassmen competing in his second trip to the SEC Championships — with seniors Billy Whalen and Brett Lange, juniors Jon Curran and Tyler Matthews, and sophomore Hudson Johnson making up the Commodore lineup.
Vanderbilt will be grouped with Auburn and Mississippi State for Friday’s first round. That trio will tee off at 7:50 a.m. CT from the first hole.
The Commodores have finished in the top five of the last four team events they have played, including a victory at the 2008 Kauai Collegiate Cup in Wailua, Hawaii.
Vanderbilt finished the 2007 SEC Championships in seventh place. Curran paced the squad with a ninth-place finish individually. Tennessee won the team event last year, with Auburn’s Patton Kizzire taking individual medalist honors.
