BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt senior Liebelei Lawrence was honored for her commitment to the community on Thursday when she was selected to the 2008 SEC Women’s Golf Community Service Team. Lawrence also made the team as a junior in 2007.

A native of Luxembourg, Lawrence was one of 12 individuals who were named to the team, which recognizes student-athletes from each sport who give back to their community in superior service efforts. Until 2007, the team was known as the Good Works Team.

In 2008, Lawrence worked with the Athletes Against Assault group (including projects such as Take Back the Night, banner for the Women’s Shelter, These Hands Don’t Hurt, and the Clothesline project). She is also an active member of the Vanderbilt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which also helped organize the Kids Zone in the Fall activity, a Holiday Party for students from Ross Elementary, and a Field Day for kids in the spring.

In 2007, Lawrence was honored on the Community Service Team for her work with at-risk youth at the Martha O’Bryan Center in Nashville.

Lawrence and the Commodores will compete in the SEC Championships this weekend at the Tennessee National Golf Club.
