April 15, 2008

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The 13th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team travels to face eighth-ranked Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The Commodores (10-4, 3-1 American Lacrosse Conference) have won three straight games, including a 15-5 victory al Albany on Sunday. In a 17-7 conference win over rival Ohio State on Friday, VU senior Margie Curran became the school’s all-time leader for assists (currently 72) and points (224).

Notre Dame (10-4) capped a five-game road trip with a 10-8 victory over BIG EAST rival Georgetown on Saturday. The win over the 6th-ranked Hoyas was the Irish’s second victory over a Top 10 opponent in just over a week. Notre Dame defeated No. 6 Duke, 12-8, on April 3.

Vanderbilt holds a 7-4 advantage in the all-time series with Notre Dame. The two teams have played every season since beginning the rivalry in 1997 — Vanderbilt’s second year as a varsity program. The Commodores have not won in South Bend since 2000, but did defeat the Irish in Nashville last season, 13-9.

Following Wednesday’s game, Vanderbilt returns home to close out the 2008 regular season against Duke on Sunday, April 20. Head Coach Cathy Swezey’s squad will honor seven seniors who are playing their final regular season home games on Sunday.

Wednesday’s game will be played on Notre Dame’s practice field due to construction at Moose Krause Stadium.
