NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt track and field team opens up its outdoor schedule this weekend as it travels to Atlanta for the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech. The meet begins at 6 p.m. Friday night and continues Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Running events will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Three teams ranked in the initial United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll are competing in Atlanta this weekend, including SEC foes Auburn, ranked 17th and Tennessee, ranked 21st. Other SEC teams competing in the meet include Georgia and Kentucky.
This weekend’s event will mark the first time that the full Commodore track and field squad will be competing outdoors. Last weekend, the Vanderbilt distance runners opened up their indoor season with some impressive performances.
Running in the first outdoor race of her career, freshman Rita Jorgensen won the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.28. Fellow freshman Erin Guglielmo finished fifth in the race with a time of 2:20.48.
The Commodores posted a second and third finish in the 3000 meters. Doebel-Hickok finished second, running the distance in 10:15.76. Finishing in third was fellow Commodore Carmen Mims, who finished with a time of 10:22.17.
