WT jumps to ninth in the country

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team jumped 11 spots to ninth in the latest national rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Commodores are coming off a week that saw them finish 2-1, including a road win over No. 2 Georgia Tech. After losing the doubles point to the Yellow Jackets, the Commodores came back to win four singles matches to complete a comeback win over the defending national champions.

After losing to No. 30 Arkansas on Friday, Vanderbilt picked up its first Southeastern Conference win of the year against No. 21 LSU. The `Dores swept the Tigers 7-0, while winning all nine matches that were played.

The Commodores have fared well against ranked opponents this season going 6-3 against teams that are ranked. The Commodores have defeated two top-10 teams on the season, beating No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 2 Georgia Tech.

Bertrand Nears All-Time Singles Wins Record: Vanderbilt senior Taka Bertrand is three wins away from breaking the Vanderbilt record for most singles wins in a career. Bertrand currently has a career singles record of 112-33. The record is currently held by Julie Ditty (1997-01), who won 114 singles matches in her four-year career.

Vanderbilt returns to action later this week, facing No. 65 Furman on Thursday and No. 41 Florida International on Friday at the Currey Tennis Center.. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. (CST).
