EVANSTON, Ill. – Vanderbilt’s 29th-ranked men’s tennis team will hit the road for just the second time this spring on Tuesday when the Commodores close their non-conference slate at Northwestern. The match will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Combe Tennis Center.
Vanderbilt is 8-2 (1-1 Southeastern Conference) on the season and is coming off a dramatic 4-3 victory over No. 58 South Carolina on Sunday. Northwestern is ranked 68th and sits at 6-7 (0-2 Big Ten) on the season. The Wildcats have lost three straight matches.
Tuesday’s match will be a homecoming of sorts for Vanderbilt, which has three players from just outside Chicago. The Second City natives are Ryan Preston (Northbrook), Nick Cromydas (Glenview) and Scott Lieberman (Riverwoods).
For the Commodores, the match will mark the first of a season-long four straight road matches. Following their match at Northwestern, Vanderbilt will travel to Arkansas on Friday and LSU on Sunday.
Against Northwestern, the Commodores will be facing their eighth ranked opponent of the spring. So far, Vanderbilt holds a 5-2 record against opponents that were ranked at the time of their meeting.
Both teams have played one common opponent this season, having lost at Michigan. Vanderbilt fell 5-2, while Northwestern was topped 6-1.
