Sun., March 2, vs. Alabama at 2 p.m. CT (Senior Day Postgame)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 23 Vanderbilt women’s basketball team plays host to Alabama on Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. CT inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Immediately following Sunday’s regular season finale, the Commodores (21-7, 10-3 Southeastern Conference) will honor Liz Sherwood with a post-game Senior Day celebration. Vanderbilt will be featured as the No. 3 seed in next week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday at the Sommet Center in downtown Nashville.

Vanderbilt and Alabama (8-20, 1-12) played each other three weeks ago in Tuscaloosa, with the Commodores coming away with a convincing 92-47 victory. Four Commodores scored in double-figures, led by junior Christina Wirth’s 20 points.

With a win on Sunday, Vanderbilt would set a school record for conference victories in a season. The Commodores have won 10 SEC games in four the last seven years.

The Crimson Tide have lost 12 straight after opening SEC play with a 65-54 victory over South Carolina. Alabama enjoyed a bye in the mid-week after losing to Ole Miss, 70-54, last Sunday. Tierney Jenkins leads the Tide, averaging 11.5 points per game.

Sherwood, the Commodores’ lone senior, recently became the 29th member of Vanderbilt 1,000-point club. A native of Castle Rock, Colo., Sherwood currently ranks 27th on VU’s all-time scoring list with 1,014 career points as a Commodore. Transferring to Vanderbilt following a freshman season at Connecticut, Sherwood has been named the SEC’s Sixth Woman of the Year the past two seasons.

Vanderbilt will play again on Friday, March 7, against either the winner of Thursday’s matchup between the sixth and 11th seeds. Arkansas is guaranteed the 11 seed, but Ole Miss, Auburn and Florida all have a chance to be the sixth seed.
