NEW ORLEANS, La. — Both the Vanderbilt men’s and women’s cross country programs were named to the All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
“It is a very nice honor for both teams and something that we work towards every year,” said head coach Steve Keith of the recognition. “It is very rewarding to see these student-athletes compete as highly and aggressively in the classroom as they do out on the cross country course and track.”
The Vanderbilt men’s cross country team pulled in an overall GPA of 3.54. The team’s GPA ranked third highest nationally among 98 men’s Division I programs that received the USTFCCCA’s academic honor.
The Southeastern Conference each had seven schools represented on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team list.
The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team registered an overall team GPA of 3.27 for a squad of 27 team members. Vanderbilt was one of five Southeastern Conference schools to be mentioned on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team list.
In all, 158 Division I women’s programs received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor.
