BALTIMORE, Md. — The 12th-ranked Commodore women’s lacrosse team takes on a pair of non-conference opponents during a weekend road swing in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Vanderbilt will take on the UMBC Retrievers (Maryland-Baltimore County) on Friday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. ET, at UMBC Stadiium. UMBC opened its season with a 16-7 loss at Hofstra last Saturday.
On Sunday, the Commodores travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at 12 Noon ET at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh is 2-0 after victories over Mount St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s.
The Commodores won their season opener last Sunday, defeating Cincinnati, 4-0, at the VU Lacrosse Complex. Senior All-American Margie Curran and sophomore Sarah Downing each contributed six points to the victory, while sophomore Carter Foote had a game-high five goals.
On Thursday, Curran and fellow senior Sasha Cielak were lauded on the Tewaaraton Watch List. The list includes the names of early season hopefuls for the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy sponsored by Warrior, which is awarded to the most outstanding lacrosse player in the nation.
Following this weekend’s road trip, the Commodores return home for a pair of home games against Duquesne (March 1) and Virginia Tech (March 4).
