FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The 25th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team travels to face Southeastern Conference rival Arkansas on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. CT inside Bud Walton Arena.

Both teams enter Thursday’s game on the heels of tough conference losses. The Commodores (19-7, 8-3 SEC) are looking to rebound from Sunday’s 68-81 loss to then-No. 1 Tennessee in Nashville, while Arkansas (17-8, 2-8 SEC) suffered a heartbreaking 75-73 defeat at Florida.

Senior Brittney Vaughn led the Lady’Backs with 18 points, marking her 12th straight double-digit game against Southeastern Conference opposition. Vaughn’s three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining tied the game, but the Gators were able to score in the final second to take the win.

Vanderbilt had a six-game winning streak snapped by the Lady Vols last week. The Commodores still have a secure hold on third place in the SEC. A victory over Arkansas coupled with a loss by Kentucky (at No. 6 LSU Thursday) would guarantee the Commodores no worse than fourth place in the league and a bye in the 2008 Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Junior Christina Wirth continues to pace the Commodores, scoring 14.6 points per game in league contests. Wirth leads the SEC in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 43 percent of her long-range attempts this year.

Defensively, Vanderbilt relies on another junior — SEC steals leader Jennifer Risper. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native is averaging nearly three steals a game while also scoring 9.6 points per league contest.

After Thursday’s game, the Commodores will enjoy a weekend off before traveling to Auburn, Ala., for a midweek contest on Feb. 28. Vanderbilt will then play its regular season finale at home on March 2, when Alabama visits Memorial Gymnasium for the Commodores’ Senior Day.
