NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After enjoying a 19-day layoff, the 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team returns to the court on Friday as it hosts East Tennessee State at 2:30 p.m. in the Currey Tennis Center.

“We’re excited to be playing East Tennessee State,” Vanderbilt head coach Geoff Macdonald said. “They have made the NCAA Tournament several times. We’re just excited to be competing again and gearing up for the SEC season.”

The Commodores enter the match with a perfect 5-0 record. The `Dores were last in action on January 26 when they defeated then-No. 9 Notre Dame 4-3 in a closely contested match. Vanderbilt trailed for most of the match but picked up wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 singles positions to clinch the match.

The win over Notre Dame also marked a milestone for Macdonald. The victory was the 400th in his career. Macdonald’s career record now stands at 400-126, while his Vanderbilt record is at 286-90.

Three Commodores enter Friday’s match with a perfect record in singles play. Caroline Ferrell, Amanda Taylor and Courtney Ulery each sport 5-0 records. The doubles team of Taylor and Courtney Ulery also have an unblemished 5-0 mark.

A member of the Atlantic Sun conference, East Tennessee State enters the match with a 1-3 record. The Lady Bucs picked up their first win of the season last week, defeating Eastern Kentucky 7-0. ETSU has suffered losses to Georgia, Miami (OH) and Kentucky. Yevgeniya Stupak leads the Lady Bucs and is ranked 27th in singles in the Southeast region.

“They play a really strong schedule so we won’t be a surprise to them,” Macdonald said. “They’re used to playing top teams and they’ll be a very solid, well-coached team.”
