TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team rolls into a Southeastern Conference matchup with Alabama this Sunday on the heels of a four-game winning streak. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2 p.m. CT and can be heard locally in Nashville on WNSR-560 AM.

The Commodores (17-6, 6-2 SEC) defeated South Carolina on Thursday, 78-48, behind a smothering defensive effort and five scorers in double-figures. Sophomore guard Merideth Marsh had a game-high 12 points to lead Vanderbilt to its eighth-consecutive home conference win.

For the fourth straight game, Vanderbilt’s opponent had more turnovers than made field goals as the Gamecocks shot just 30.6 percent from the floor. The Commodores have tied the school’s best SEC start since the league expanded to a 14-game schedule in 1998.

Alabama (8-15, 1-7 SEC) suffered a 53-89 home loss at the hands of LSU Thursday. The Crimson Tide have lost seven straight games after opening the SEC season with a win 65-54 over South Carolina.

Last season in Nashville, Vanderbilt beat Alabama, 91-51. The Commodores connected on 32-of-42 field goal attempts to set an NCAA record for field goal percentage (76.2 percent). Vanderbilt has won four straight games in the series, dating back to a 2004 Alabama victory in Tuscaloosa. The Commodores hold a 21-11 advantage all-time against the Crimson Tide, but the series is tide, 7-7, in Tuscaloosa.

Next week, Vanderbilt plays host to a pair of home games. Kentucky visits Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday, Feb. 14, for Vanderbilt’s annual “Pink Out” game. In conjunction with the WBCA’s “Think Pink” initiative and Vanderbilt’s “Baskets for Benefits” campaign, all fans are asked to wear pink to Thursday’s contest and are encouraged to pledge donations for every free throw the Commodores make. Donation forms can be found on Vanderbilt’s athletic web site, CLICK HERE. The Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center have been designated as the beneficiaries for the Kentucky game.
