MT to Face Two Ranked Opponents

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s 35th-ranked men’s tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season when the Commodores travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to play No. 26 N.C. State and No. 18 Michigan.

Both matches will be held at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center. The Commodores (4-0) will face the Wolfpack (3-1) at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday and the Wolverines (4-1) at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.

“The ante just keeps going up,” Vanderbilt head coach Ian Duvenhage said. “The two teams are Nos. 18 and 26 in the country, so we will see how good we are.”

Vanderbilt is coming off a 5-2 win over No. 55 New Mexico on Thursday – Its first win over a ranked opponent this season. The Commodores won four of the six singles matches, including three of the four that went three sets. Vanderbilt also won the doubles point for the fourth time in four tries this spring.

N.C. State is 1-1 against ranked opponents this season. The Wolfpack lost 4-3 to No. 23 Rice and defeated No. 30 Wisconsin, 5-2. In the rankings, N.C. State’s doubles team of Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker is ranked No. 16.

Michigan is 2-1 this season against ranked opponents, having defeated No. 59 Western Michigan, 7-0, and No. 17 Pepperdine, 4-3. Michigan’s lone loss was a 5-2 loss to No. 1 Virginia last Sunday. The Wolverines have one player ranked in singles and two doubles teams ranked. In singles, Jason Jung is ranked No. 55. In doubles, the team of Mike Sroczynski and Jung is ranked 23rd and the team of Matko Maravic and Jung is ranked No. 27.
