NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Feb. 17 women’s basketball game between Vanderbilt and Tennessee is sold out, Commodore athletic officials announced Thursday.
“We continue to be excited by the support that our basketball programs receive,” Vanderbilt Director of Marketing Eric Nichols said. “Vanderbilt ranks among the nation’s leaders in attendance each year and we’re pleased to be selling out benchmark games like next Sunday’s exciting intrastate matchup.”
Leading up to Thursday’s SEC contest against South Carolina, Memorial Gymnasium is averaging over 4,700 fans per women’s basketball contest, holding on to a Top 25 ranking nationally.
Vanderbilt has won three straight and matched its best conference start of the past 11 years. At 5-2 in conference, the Commodores rank third in the league at the halfway point of SEC play. The Lady Vols are currently in line for a No. 1 ranking after previously unbeaten Connecticut fell at Rutgers on Tuesday.
Tickets are still available for Vanderbilt’s other remaining home games against Kentucky (Feb. 14) and Alabama (March 2). They can be purchased online at vucommodores.com, by phone at 322-GOLD, or in person at the Vanderbilt Ticket Office.
The Kentucky game will support the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center during a “PINK OUT” as part of VU’s “Baskets for Benefits” iniatative, in conjunction with the WBCA’s “Think Pink” program.
The Alabama game features senior night, as the Commodores close out the regular season before taking part in the 2008 SEC Tournament at Nashville’s Sommet Center.
Commodore fans are encouraged to pledge donations for every free throw that Vanderbilt sinks during Thursday games. The donation form is available online at vucommodores.com.
