Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings:
On winning a road SEC game:
“We needed a quality win on the road and we got it. We have been getting a lot of grief for not being able to win on the road, and tonight we had a tough opponent and a tough game but it was nice to get the monkey off our back. It is tough to win in the SEC and tonight was no different.
On the difference in the game:
“The difference in the game is we made the timely shots necessary to win. We both played hard and competed, but we made the timely shots.
On Georgia’s Sundiata Gaines:
“Gaines penetration was really hurting us early on, and we didn’t do a good job of defending the post, but eventually our zone wore them down like we thought it would.
On Vanderbilt’s play:
“We thought that if we executed our offense we’d get some lay ups and we did, which was nice. We did a good job of taking care of the ball and doing what we needed to to win.”
Georgia Head Coach Dennis Felton:
Opening statement:
“This game was very similar to the last two. We were in position to win going into the closing minute or two, but we just couldn’t make the play. (Ross) Neltner hit a huge jump shot with the clock running down. We didn’t guard him urgently enough. He got a decent look and he made the shot.
On Georgia’s play:
“We had our opportunities. We failed to make some shots. It was the story of the game. I’m disappointed in the way we defended. We didn’t defend with enough tenacity. We didn’t force enough turnovers. We got better in the second half. You have to put pressure on them.
On Georgia’s depth:
“We are young at some spots. We are hurting at a spot or two. We have to get tougher. We rebounded much better and we defended much better in the second half. There were just some key possessions where they were a little better than us.
On Georgia’s inability to score:
“Our guys are struggling a little mentally with making shots. As a team, certainly that kind of thing gets everyone uptight. We have to get through it.”
