No. 35 MT Hosts New Mexico Thursday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 35 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will conclude its four-match homestand on Thursday with No. 55 New Mexico visiting the Currey Tennis Center at 2 p.m.

Vanderbilt (3-0) is off to its best start since 2005 when the Commodores started the season 7-0. The Lobos enter Thursday’s match with a 1-2 record this season, having defeated No. 70 Utah and losing consecutive matches to No. 27 Boise State.

“New Mexico lost two very close 4-3 matches to No. 27 Boise State and as such we regard them as a top-30 team,” Vanderbilt head coach Ian Duvenhage said. “They will be our toughest challenge to date.”

Last weekend, Vanderbilt defeated Samford, 7-0, on Saturday and Memphis, 6-1, on Sunday.

Through three matches, the Commodores are 3-0 at the Nos. 2, 5 and 6 positions in singles and Nos. 1 and 3 positions in doubles.

In facing the Lobos, the Commodores will face some of its stiffest competition yet this season. The Lobos’ Max Jones is ranked No. 35 in singles and their doubles team of Jones and Kamil Pajkowski is ranked No. 48.

Following Thursday’s match, the Commodores will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., for matches against No. 26 N.C. State (Saturday) and No. 18 Michigan (Sunday).
