NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis 2008 recruiting class of Chelsea Preeg, Heather Steinbauer and Jacqueline Wu has been rated as the sixth best in the country, according to rankings released Monday by tennisrecruiting.net.
A native of Naples, Fla., Preeg is currently ranked eighth in the country and second in the talent-rich state of Florida. Preeg has won numerous junior championships in her career and won the Florida State Girls’ 18 and under Championships when she was only 14 years old.
Steinbauer hails from The Woodlands, Texas. She is currently ranked 31st nationally and second in the state of Texas. Steinbauer won the girls’ 18 division at the 2007 Houston Coca-Cola SCMZ and finished second at the 2007 USTA National Opens.
Wu is from Holmdel, N.J., and is the 55th-ranked player in the country and second-ranked player in the state. She advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 International Grass Court Championships and was also a member of the victorious East team at the 2006 USTA National Girls’ 18 Team Championships.
Vanderbilt’s recruiting class was ranked second in the Southeastern Conference, behind only Georgia’s second-ranked class. Princeton had the top recruiting class in the country according to tennisrecruiting.net.
The Commodores return to action on Saturday, February 16, when they play host to East Tennessee State. Opening serve at the Currey Tennis Center is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (CST).
