GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team travels to the Stephen O’Connell Center on Thursday to face Florida for a 6 p.m. CT tip-off.

Both teams enter the key Southeastern Conference tilt with similar 14-6 marks, including 3-2 league records. This past Sunday, Vanderbilt came off a mid-week bye to beat Ole Miss, 83-50, in Nashville, while the Gators earned a 60-57 road victory in South Carolina.

Junior Jennifer Risper led Vanderbilt’s win over the Lady Rebels with her second double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and pulling 10 rebounds. Sophomore Jessica Mooney also scored in double figures (12 points) while dishing out a career-high six assists.

Vanderbilt used a 30-3 first-half run to shut down the visiting Lady Rebels. The Commodores led 40-12 at halftime after holding Ole Miss to 15 percent shooting and forcing 16 Lady Rebel turnovers.

Florida led by as many as 17 points before South Carolina pulled close in the final minutes. But a career-high 18 points from sophomore Sharielle Smith proved to be enough for the Gators.

The Commodores and Gators have faced only one common opponent this season, the Georgia Lady Bulldogs. Vanderbilt defeated then-No. 11 Georgia, 67-59, in Nashville two weeks ago. A week later, the Lady Bulldogs would travel to Gainesville and defeat Florida, 82-55.

Vanderbilt has won four of the last five games against Florida, including a 105-77 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Southeastern Conference Tournament. The Commodores hold a 25-18 advantage in the all-time series, but are only 8-10 in Gainesville, where Florida has captured five of the last seven contests since 1997.
