Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On what she attributes the fast start tonight…
“I think it is the way we have been practicing. We have been practicing very hard on defense everyday. The philosophy you want is to push each other harder in practice than in the game. That’s really how they felt this time.”
On expecting Georgia to make a run…
“I watch the clock way too much and it wasn’t moving. I hate big leads; we were just in the opposite situation at LSU. They had the big lead and they knew we were going to make a run. We have a lot of respect for Georgia, like I am sure LSU had for us. We’ve had such battles over the five years I have been here, it has been anybody’s game. What’s hard is in the back of your kids’ heads they are thinking here they come and they (Georgia) become the aggressor on offense and put you on your heels.”
On stopping the run…
“I think with 10 minutes to go Tina (Christina Wirth) hit a really big three. That is who we needed to step up and she did, and I think we all knew we were going to be okay.
