BATON ROUGE, La. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team plays its first Southeastern Conference road game of the season on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. CT against No. 11 LSU inside the Maravich Center.

Sunday’s game will be televised live on Fox Sports South as part of the SEC Regional Network. Charle Mattos’ radio call will also be available on Nashville’s WNSR 560-AM, as well as on the official web site of Vanderbilt athletics, http://vucommodores.com.

Both teams opened conference play with victories on Thursday. Vanderbilt (12-4, 1-0 SEC) notched a 72-50 home win over Mississippi State, while LSU (12-3, 1-0 SEC) knocked off No. 20 Arkansas on the road, 76-54.

Vanderbilt is led in scoring by senior Liz Sherwood and junior Christina Wirth. Sherwood averages 13.6 points per game and leads the nation in field goal percentage (.715). Wirth is scoring 13.3 points per game and ranks among SEC leaders in five categories.

Senior All-American center Sylvia Fowles leads the Lady Tigers in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg). Fowles missed a pair of games after undergoing knee surgery in December, but returned to the starting lineup against Arkansas to notch her 69th career double-double.

Vanderbilt holds an 18-14 advantage in the all-time series against LSU. The two teams met twice last season, with the Commodores notching a pair of impressive victories. The squads first met in Nashville for Vanderbilt’s Senior Day, with the Commodores earning a 68-58 victory.

The SEC Championship game at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, Ga., set the stage for the second meeting between the two league powers. The Commodores held LSU without a field goal over the final six minutes of the game to earn Vanderbilt’s fifth SEC Tournament championship trophy.

The Commodores have won three straight, and are looking for their second win over a ranked opponent this season. Vanderbilt defeated then-No. 11/10 Duke, 68-55, on Nov. 28 in Nashville.

Following Sunday’s game at LSU, the Commodores will face a pair of Top 10-ranked teams next week. Vanderbilt plays host to No. 10 Georgia on Thursday before traveling east on Interstate-40 to take on No. 2 Tennessee in Knoxville.
