Team Records and Series Notes:
– Vanderbilt improves to 15-0 on the season, while UMass drops to 11-3.
– The Commodores are the first time in the country to compile a 15-0 record and are one of six unbeaten teams in the country.
– Vanderbilt is now 1-0 all-time against UMass, as this was the first meeting between the two schools.
– Vanderbilt is now 18-13 all-time against teams from the Atlantic 10 conference.
– Vanderbilt opens SEC play on Wednesday when it welcomes South Carolina to Memorial Gym. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be carried live on the Vanderbilt/ISP Radio Network with Joe Fisher (play-by-play) and Tim Thompson (analyst).
Vanderbilt Team Notes:
– Key Run: Leading 75-72, Vanderbilt scored the next nine points to take an 84-72 advantage. The Commodore defense held the Minutemen without a basket for 3:23 during the run.
– Key Stat: The Commodores used a hot-shooting second half to get the victory. Vanderbilt shot 21-of-38 (55.3 percent) from the field and a scorching 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the three-point line in the second stanza compared to 19-of-47 (40.4 percent) from the floor and 4-of-11 (36.4 percent) from three for the Minutemen.
– The 97 points scored by the Commodores ties a season-high for most points scored in a game this season.
– Vanderbilt scored 61 points in the second half, its highest scoring half of the season.
– The 13 made three-pointers by Vanderbilt marks a season high.
– The Commodores have now made a three in 679 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in the country.
– Vanderbilt dished out 19 assists in the game with 13 of those coming in the second half.
Vanderbilt Individual Notes:
– Senior swingman Shan Foster led the Commodores in scoring with a season-high 32 points, one off his career high of 33. Foster nailed eight three-pointers, a career high and the most by a Commodore in a game since Mario Moore made nine against Wichita State on March 21, 2005. The eight threes made by Foster ties him with Ronnie McMahan for the school record for most three-point field goals made in a career.
– Foster also becomes the first Commodore to score 20-plus points in three consecutive games since Mario Moore accomplished the feat in March 2005.
– Freshman Andrew Ogilvy recorded his second-career double-double with 25 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, all in the second half. Ogilvy tied a career high with nine made field goals and played a career-high 32 minutes.
– Sophomore guard Jermaine Beal added a career-high 19 points on six field goals and three three-point field goals, both career highs.
– Freshman Darshawn McClellan brought down a career-high nine rebounds. McClellan also added five points and a career-high three blocks.
– Freshman guard Keegan Bell added two key three-pointers in the second half during the Commodore run. Bell finished the game with six points and four assists.
