NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team rings in the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 2, when South Florida visits Memorial Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. CT tip-off.

The Commodores are looking to rebound from an 80-65 loss to 23rd-ranked Old Dominion Sunday to close the 2007 calendar year. The final game of a five-game homestand, Tuesday’s matchup features the payoff game of a home-and-home series that saw Vanderbilt come away from Tampa, Fla., with a 76-68 victor last season.

Center Liz Sherwood and forward Christina Wirth both posted double-doubles in that game, played at the St. Pete Times-Forum. The Forum will host the NCAA Women’s Final Four this April.

Vanderbilt is searching for its 10th win of the season as it plays host to its final non-conference home game of the 2007-08 season. The Commodores will travel to Princeton this weekend before opening Southeastern Conference play next Thursday against Mississippi State.

South Florida (10-2) has won eight straight games. The Bulls are led by All-BIG EAST honoree Shantia Grace, who averages 18.4 points per game.
