TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team stands in 10th place after Sunday’s first round in the Seminole Intercollegiate at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
Senior Luke List paced the Commodores, shooting a one-under 71 to stand in a tie for seventh place after the first of three rounds of play.
After totaling a 13-over 301, the Commodores stand only 11 strokes behind co-leaders Mississippi State and Auburn — both at +2. The College of Charleston (+5), Northwestern (+6) and UAB (+7) round out the top five.
Head Coach Tom Shaw’s squad stands only one stroke behind host Florida State, while the Commodores lead East Tennessee State and Virginia by one shot.
List carded three birdies against only two bogeys, coming in at one-under on the back nine to lead Vanderbilt. On the season, the Ringgold, Ga., native has posted three Top 10 finishes in five team events this season. In individual play, he won the Jones Cup — playing in one of the top fields in amateur golf — and placed second at the College All-American.
Freshman Chris Rockwell, making his first collegiate appearance, birdied the 18th hole to finish with a four-over 76 — good enough for second on the squad. Both senior Dos Goldsmith and sophomore Jon Curran went five-over on the day, while junior Billy Whalen double-bogeyed the final hole to drop to seven-over.
Monday’s second round begins at 7:30 a.m. ET, with the Commodores teeing off from the 10th hole at 11:12 a.m. Virginia and ETSU will be paired with Vanderbilt during the second round.
A final 18 holes is scheduled for Tuesday on the Golden Eagle Country Club’s par-72, 7,041-yard layout.
