The #21/20 Commodores moved to 9-0, the sixth time in school history that a team has started a season 9-0, after defeating crosstown foe Lipscomb, 90-67, on Saturday night at Memorial Gym. Freshman A.J. Ogilvy led the way with his first career double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds, both career bests, and senior Shan Foster added 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the winning effort. After Lipscomb cut the lead to eight in the second half, the Commodores exploded from the field, hitting 56.7% of its shots from the floor (17-30), and 57.1% from three (8-14). Vanderbilt also went to the line 27 times and made 19 of them in the second half.

The Commodores won by its largest margin of the season against Lipscomb, and made 11 threes, its highest total of the year so far. Vanderbilt also held the Bisons to 37.5% from the floor, the third time this season VU has held an opponent under 40%. The Commodores also scored 90 or more points for the fourth time this season, and 80 or more for the seventh time.

Foster ended the game with 21 points, his 13th consecutive game in double figures, and he moved into 11th place all-time on the VU scoring list, passing Commodore great Dan Langhi. He now has 1,504 career points. He is five points away from #10 Barry Goheen (1,509) and 10 points from the ninth all-time leading scorer, Tom Hogan (1,514).

Foster and Ogilvy rank one and two, respectively, in scoring in the Southeastern Conference as of December 12. Foster pours in 20.4 points per contest, while Ogilvy adds 19.6 points per game. Ogilvy is the SEC’s leading freshman scorer by 3.5 points per game over Kentucky’s Patrick Patterson (16.1 ppg), and is the country’s sixth leading freshman scorer and the nation’s top international scorer.

Vanderbilt and DePaul will meet for only the second time in the history of the two schools, with the Commodores holding a 1-0 series advantage. The only meeting came in the first round of the 1965 NCAA Tournament in Lexington, Ky., a game Vanderbilt won, 83-78.

DePaul enters the game with a 2-3 record after losing at Kansas, 84-66, in their last time out. Senior guard Draelon Burns leads the team in scoring with 17.0 points per game.
