MG: VU Running Second At Western Carolina

CASHIERS, N.C. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team stands in second place after day one of the WCU Intercollegiate presented by Macon Bank, played at the County Club of Sapphire Valley.

Junior Jon Curran stands three shots back of the leaders — both from host Western Carolina. Curran’s two-under 69 puts him in third place in the 83-player field. Seniors John Ebert and Brett Lange are also in the tournament’s Top 10 after round one.

The Commodores joined the tournament field late after two days of their own Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate were rained out. The 36-hole event is being play on Sapphire Valley’s par 71, 6,767-yard layout.

Eighteen holes are scheduled to be played on Tuesday to conclude the two-day event.
