NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jordan Coleman, a 5-11 wing from Longwood, Fla., became the first prep prospect to sign a 2007 National Letter of Intent to attend Vanderbilt and play basketball for the Commodores, Head Coach Melanie Balcomb announced Wednesday.
Coleman, ranked No. 59 in the 2008 class by the Blue Star Index, has been a four-year starter for the Lake Mary High School Rams. She led her squad to a 6A state championship as a sophomore in 2006, earning Most Valuable Player honors in the finals. For her efforts, Coleman was named the 2006 Seminole County Athlete of the Year.
“Jordan is extremely versatile and brings tremendous athleticism,” Balcomb said. “Her experience and knowledge of the game will help her be a great fit in our system. On top of that, Jordan is a proven winner that exudes confidence.”
A three-time All-County honoree, Coleman also earned All-State recognition following her sophomore season. Despite an injury that derailed part of her junior campaign, Coleman has led the Rams in rebounding and field goal percentage in each of the last two seasons.
Playing with the FBVA Orlando Comets (16U), Coleman was a member of the first Florida team to win a girls AAU national title. Her AAU squads have won seven straight state championships.
“We really like Jordan’s background,” Balcomb added. “She’s developed with very good coaching at the high school level and in AAU, and she has a high basketball IQ.”
An outstanding all-around athlete, Coleman earned first-team All-State honors in track & field and finished second in the state as a sophomore in the triple jump.
The NCAA’s early signing period continues through next week.
