NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt freshman Molly Kinsella was named Southeastern Conference Soccer Freshman of the Week today after scoring a golden goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win at No. 20 South Carolina with just nine seconds left in double overtime.
The goal was from 25 yards out in the air past the outstretched arms of USC’s goalkeeper. It gave the Commodores their first SEC win of the year, capping off a five-game road trip. It was her fourth goal of the year, tying her with senior Sarah Dennis for the team lead.
The freshman from Memphis has started in all 11 games this season and leads the team in scoring with four goals and three assists (11 points) and shots with 39.
It is the first weekly honor for Vanderbilt this season. The Commodores will take on Top 25 teams Georgia and Tennessee this weekend at the VU Soccer Complex.
