NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One week after opening the season at home with the Vanderbilt Invitational, the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will hit the road this weekend for the Southern Intercollegiates, which will be played Sept. 21-24 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
With the season just getting underway, head coach Ian Duvenhage looks at the Southern Intercollegiates as a prime opportunity to view the progress of the freshmen.
“We are just continuing to look at our freshmen to see how they are performing,” Duvenhage said. “Obviously we know what to expect from our experienced players, so this weekend will be about our newcomers and seeing what works and what doesn’t. For our experienced players, we are just looking to continue to improve and get our play to the level it needs to be.”
Eight of the 10 players on the roster will compete this weekend with only junior Nick Cromydas and freshman Bryant Salcedo not making the trip to Athens.
The Commodores’ doubles teams will be comprised of Evan Dufaux and Adam Baker, Ryan Preston and Andy Pulido, Vijay Paul and James Moye, and Scott Lieberman and Alex Zotov.
Last week at the Vanderbilt Invitational, the Commodores were led in singles play by Dufaux and Paul, who each posted 3-0 records and won their respective groups.
