ROCKY FACE, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team opens the 2007-08 season on Friday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on the 7,012-yard, Par 72 layout of The Farm Golf Club.

Fresh off an appearance in last spring’s NCAA Championships, VU Head Coach Tom Shaw enters his second season with the Commodores. Vanderbilt’s lineup for its first event of the season includes senior Billy Whalen, junior Jon Curran, sophomores Hudson Johnson and Chris Rockwell, and freshman Adam Hofmann.

“The Farm plays host to one of the best events in college golf,” Shaw said. “It is just a great way to start off the season. Everybody had a nice summer, but we’re excited to get out for our first action of the fall.”

This summer, Commodore golfers were featured prominently in a number of events across the country. Curran and Rockwell competed at the United States Amateur, while Johnson won the Spirit of America Cup, and Hofmann captured the Pennsylvania State Amateur title.

The Commodores will tee off Friday at 9:15 a.m. ET, leading out from the 10th tee in a grouping with Texas Tech and TCU. The impressive field includes seven Southeastern Conference teams and six squads from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
