Soccer Doubleheader This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt soccer (1-0-1) looks to build off of last weekend’s solid performances this weekend against UAB and Tennessee Tech. The Commodores take on UAB in Birmingham Friday night at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Tennessee Tech on Sunday in the home opener at 2 p.m.

UAB is 1-0-1 on the year after tying Mercer in their season opener last Friday and then defeated Georgia State, 2-0, last Sunday. Goalkeeper Kate Blankenship has been in net for all 200 minutes and has recorded nine saves in two shutouts.

Tennessee Tech is 1-2-0 on the year after picking up its first win of the year against UT-Chattanooga 4-1 yesterday in Cookeville. Brianne Lankford leads the team in scoring with a goal and an assist.

Sarah Dennis scored the lone goal for the Commodores to date in VU’s 1-0 win over Texas Tech last Sunday. Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel has notched two shutouts in her first two starts with 13 saves.

Vanderbilt is 3-1-2 in home openers under head coach Ronnie Coveleskie. The Commodores are 4-1 against UAB under Coveleskie and are 1-0 against Tennessee Tech in her six previous seasons.
