NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s 2007-08 women’s basketball schedule, which includes an impressive non-conference slate and 14 Southeastern Conference games, was released Wednesday by Head Coach Melanie Balcomb.

Vanderbilt fans will have 19 opportunities to catch the Commodores inside Memorial Gymnasium, including 17 regular-season contests. Season ticket prices will start at $25 in the lower bowl for the second straight year, as Commodore officials look to build on the momentum of last season’s increases in both attendance and wins. The Commodores went 28-6 and averaged more than 4,500 fans per home contest a year ago.

“We are excited to have put together another extremely challenging schedule of games this season,” Balcomb commented. “And we are very happy to have such an outstanding home schedule for our loyal fans to enjoy. As a young team, we will be tested early in the year and that can only help us grow as we prepare for our SEC Tournament title defense in our own backyard.”

Vanderbilt’s non-conference schedule features tilts with a number of national powers as well as teams with local flavor. Ten of the Commodores’ first 14 games will be played at home, beginning with contests against UAB (Nov. 9) and Furman (Nov. 11). After regional trips to Indiana State (Nov. 14) and Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson (Nov. 20), Vanderbilt will play host to the VU Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 23-25) which this season features Iowa State, Michigan and Belmont.

The Commodores close out the month of November by playing host to national power Duke (Nov. 28). December opens with a trip to Berkeley, Calif., to take on St. Mary’s and Cal (Dec. 1-2). Vanderbilt’s next five contests are all at home, including matchups with Western Kentucky (Dec. 6), Colorado (Dec. 9), Lipscomb (Dec. 22), Old Dominion (Dec. 30) and South Florida (Jan. 2). The non-conference season closes with a trip to Balcomb’s home state of New Jersey to face Princeton (Jan. 6).

The Southeastern Conference slate again promises to be one of the most challenging in the nation. Conference home games include Mississippi State (Jan. 10), Georgia (Jan. 17), Ole Miss (Jan. 27), South Carolina (Feb. 7), Kentucky (Feb. 14), Tennessee (Feb. 17) and Alabama (March 2). The Commodores will play home-and-home series against Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. Four of VU’s seven SEC road games will be televised, including a Jan. 13 rematch of the 2007 SEC Tournament championship game at LSU.

The Commodores will play 29 regular season games leading up to their Southeastern Conference Tournament championship defense at the Sommet Center in Nashville (March 6-9). The NCAA Tournament will begin on March 22 at campus sites, with the 2008 NCAA Women’s Final Four scheduled for April 6-8 at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla.
