Tim Corbin, whose 2007 baseball team won Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament championships, today was announced as Vanderbilt’s Coach of the Year for the 2006-07 year.
The award is voted upon by members of the Athletic Administrative Team, which is headed by Vice Chancellor David Williams. In a record-breaking year that saw 10 Commodore teams make NCAA post-season play, Williams said there was tight voting with the top four vote getters finish within a few points of each other.
Corbin’s baseball Commodores won 54 games, were rated No. 1 in the nation for 15 weeks, established numerous playing and attendance records and ended the year with David Price not only being named the nation’s consensus Player of the Year but also was the No. 1 pick in the MLB draft.
Corbin had also won this award after the 2004 season.
Also honored at the luncheon were the men’s cross country and women’s swim teams for highest team grade point averages, business manager Lisa Teasley as the department’s “unsung hero” for her outstanding work and the entire academic support staff for their efforts that resulted in the composite student-athlete grade point average above a 3.0 mark for the year.
