View 2007-08 Swimming and Diving Schedule
NASHVILLE — Vanderbilt’s first home meet since the program was reestablished highlights the Commodores’ 2007-08 swimming and diving schedule, head coach Jeremy Organ announced Friday. The Commodores will welcome Miami (FL) to the Centennial Sportsplex Jan. 11 for the first home meet since 1992.
“We are very excited to swim against the teams that we have scheduled this year,” Organ said. “It is a challenging schedule that will prepare us to be ready for the SEC Championships.”
Now in its second season, the Commodore swimming and diving team opens up their season Oct. 13 against Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. Vanderbilt’s first SEC meet takes place on Nov. 2 against Alabama and LSU in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Black and Gold will close out the 2007 portion of the schedule in Bowling Green, Ky., at the Western Kentucky Invite Nov. 16-19.
A home meet against Miami (FL) starts the 2008 part of the schedule for the Commodores. The Hurricanes have 20 women’s swimming national champions all time and will be a tough test for the Commodores.
“We are very happy to be hosting our first home meet since 1992,” Organ said. “Miami will be a very difficult opponent, but competing in front of a hometown crowd will be a huge motivating factor for the girls.”
Vanderbilt will compete in two road meets in January, traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., on Jan. 19 for a dual meet with the Arkansas Lady `Backs. Vandy concludes the regular season on Jan. 26 against Georgia Tech and Emory in Atlanta.
The Commodores travel to Tuscaloosa for the 2008 SEC Championships Feb. 20-23. The NCAA Championships take place March 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio.
