NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s women’s and men’s cross country teams will kick off the 2007 season Friday night at the Belmont/Vanderbilt Opener at Percy Warner Park.
The women’s team finished in fifth place at the event last season. Junior Amanda Scott is the leading returnee for the Commodores and placed 16th overall in last year’s event.
The race will feature top competitors from SEC rivals Alabama and Tennessee, a top four regional team and national qualifier in 2006. UAB, another top five regional team in 2006, will also participate in tomorrow’s event.
The Vanderbilt men’s team ended as runner-ups in the 5k race last fall and had two runners, senior Austin Williamson and sophomore Thomas Davis, finish in the top six overall.
The women’s race will begin at 5:30 pm followed by the men’s race at 6 p.m.
