2007 Vanderbilt Cross Country Season Preview | Women’s Schedule | Men’s Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala — The Southeastern Conference released its 2007 SEC Cross Country Preseason Poll today. After finishing in seventh-place a year ago at the SEC Championships, the women’s team was picked sixth in a vote by the league’s head coaches. The men’s team was picked eleventh overall after placing tenth at last year’s conference meet.

Head Coach Steve Keith was not surprised by the results of the voting.

“I think the coaches placed us where I thought we’d be placed,” said Keith. “It’s one or two places below our goal. However, it’s just a preseason poll. Nobody has raced a competitive step yet.”

The University of Arkansas took the top honors. The Razorbacks were selected to win the men’s title, while the Lady Razorbacks were selected to claim the women’s title.

Points for the men’s poll were awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis while the women’s poll was awarded on a 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

Vanderbilt opens the season with the Belmont Invitational on August 31. The 2007 SEC Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, will be held October 27.
